610 Market Street forms part of Chapel Hill’s Southern Village Market Street which has look and feel of a classic main street. The three-story structure houses shops, offices and residences surrounding a village green common gathering space. Though the design of Market Street suggests an older town, the office and retail spaces are located only a short drive from downtown Chapel Hill and the UNC campus and provides ample and convenient free parking, a wealth of amenities and state-of-the-art technology. The structure consists of load bearing masonry walls at the first floor which allowed for expansive openings and windows. Traditional timber framing was used for the upper levels. The building is supported on shallow foundations and lateral loads are resisted by a combination of masonry and timber shear walls.
